A Comprehensive Approach

Education Support Professionals (MESP),

The MESP and District met last week to continue negotiating the 2017/18 contract. This was the third session we have held and we are making good progress. We have implemented an Interest-Based Bargaining approach and have noticed a more open and productive exchange of ideas from both sides.

The MESP proposed the following wage consideration with the understanding that we are committed to recruiting, retaining, and rewarding our hard-working education support professionals.

  1. Restoration of Automatic Steps for those who qualify.

  2. 5% across the board increase to the wage schedule

  3. ESE and Special Needs Paraprofessional Annual Supplement - $250 (400)

  4. Implementation of ESP Career Development per FL Statute 1012.38 to include a negotiated supplement amount for Level III-Level V.

  5. Ability to choose 20 or 24 paycheck option

  6. Up to 3 additional payroll slots available for union vendors

  7. Retroactive Pay on Separate Check

  8. Classification Paygrade Modifications:

  • Receptionist move to C-2

  • Homeschool Liaison move to C-4

  • Social Work Assistants move to C-4

  • Guidance Clerk move to C-4

The following are some of the language items that have been discussed and/or agreed to:

  • Bereavement Leave

  • ESP Professional Development

  • New Employee Orientation

  • Posting of Vacancies and Voluntary Transfer clarification language

Our next scheduled session is TBA in the board room. All sessions are open to the public. Come out and support the MEA Bargaining Team!
