Marion Education Support Professionals represents the support professionals employed by the Marion County School Board. Our goal is to provide the best education for all children. Members work to improve learning through the collective bargaining process and lobbying lawmakers. Improving our members’ salary, rights, and working conditions, will improve the students’ learning conditions. MESP members are dedicated to improving the public school system in Marion County.
The Week Ahead in the 2022 Legislature
During the 2022 legislative session, which runs from January 11-March 11, education will be a hot button issue.
FEA, our locals and our members are committed to ensuring Florida’s PreK-12 schools along with our colleges and universities become the strongest in the nation.
We hope this page will serve as your one stop shop for all the information you need to follow along with what is happening during the 2022 legislative session.
Meetings relating to education are shown below. If interested, you can click on the respective chamber to see the full calendar for this week’s meetings in the House and the Senate. All meetings are streamed live and on The Florida Channel where they are also available for on-demand viewing within 24 hours of the conclusion of the meeting.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, no legislative meetings
Tuesday, January 18

11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Senate Education Committee will take up six bills including SB 148 which prohibits educators from persuading students to a particular point of view regarding slavery.

2:00-4:00 p.m. House Post-Secondary Education & Lifelong Learning Subcommittee will take up three bills including HB 703 which removes current public record requirements regarding higher education presidential searches.

4:30-6:30 p.m. House Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee will take up a series of appropriations project bills.
Wednesday, January 19

8:30-10:00 a.m. Senate Government Oversight & Accountability Committee will hear a series of presentations and then take up SB 520 which removes current public record requirements regarding higher education presidential searches.

1:00-2:30 p.m. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education will not meet during their scheduled time.

1:00-3:00 p.m. House Early Learning & Elementary Education Subcommittee will take up two bills.

3:30-5:30 p.m. Secondary Education & Career Development Subcommittee will take up two bills including one related to charted schools

9:00-11:00 a.m. House Education & Employment Subcommittee agenda will be released by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 18.
